    Ingredients

    • 1/2 Stick Butter
    • 1 Large Onion
    • 2 Large Carrots
    • 2 Large Celery Stalks
    • 3 Garlic Cloves
    • 1 LB Mild Original Ground Sausage
    • 1/2 tsp Salt
    • 1/2 tsp Pepper
    • 1/2 tsp Poultry Seasoning
    • 12 oz Favorite Stuffing Brand (I used Pepperidge Farm)
    • 3 Cups Chicken Stock

    Method

    1

Prep your veggies by peeling the carrots, then dicing them, the onions, celery and garlic. Set aside.

    2

On your stove top, place a large pot and turn the heat to high. Add the butter and let it melt completely. Once the butter is melted, add the prepared veggies and garlic. Turn the heat to medium and let them cook for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.

    3

Next, add the sausage and using a spatula mix the sausage with the veggies, breaking down the sausage into smaller pieces. Add the salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. Mix to incorporate. Stir occasionally until the sausage is cooked.

    4

Add the stuffing and mix together with the sausage and veggie mix. Pour the chicken stock over the stuffing, and give it a few stirs. Turn the stove to high. Let the chicken stock come up to a boil. Once stock is boiling, turn the heat off, stir one more time and put on a lid.

    Easy Sausage Stuffing

Happy Holidays! Unless you’re eating this outside of the holiday season (which I totally condone). This Easy Sausage Stuffing is so packed with flavor! It’s sure to enhance any event you’re planning. Not only that, it’s pretty dang easy. Let’s get into it!

    Veggie Prep

Before you do anything, you’re going to want to prep your veggies. This makes cooking sooooo much easier. I used to, and admittedly sometimes still do, cook and prep at the same time. I have since wised up and started prepping first. This has made cooking so much more enjoyable. I’m not racing against any clocks or over cooking an ingredient while attending to another ingredient. This actually is a French method called “Mise En Place”. Basically, before cooking you measure, diced and prep anything you need to for a smooth cooking experience.

    Quick SAUTÉ

Once you’ve prepped your veg and are ready to go, it’s time to cook those veggies up. Take a large pot, place it on top of your stove and set it on high. Add your butter and melt it completely.

After your butter is melted, add in your veggies and garlic. Stir your veggies around to incorporate the butter and really give them a good coating. Once everything is coated, turn down the heat to medium. Now, here’s a Pro Tip: Sometimes when we hear sizzling in a pan, we are tempted to stir and stir and stir. Resist the urge! Let your veggies brown a bit and cook down. To prevent burning, just give it a stir every now and then.

I find that 5 minutes is long enough to soften the veggies to my liking. I like them to be softened, but not mushy. If you want yours totally softened, go for it! Just cook it for a bit longer, and perhaps consider turning down the heat to medium-low to prevent burning.

    Sausage Fest?

Let’s get real people. Stuffing is better with sausage. It’s a fact. Like the sky is blue, or the ocean is salty. This Easy Sausage Stuffing is proof! Alright, now that we have that settled, let’s add it in. I use the mild Jimmy Dean’s original ground sausage. If you like a little heat, feel free to get the spicier stuff. Either are delicious in my humble opinion.

    poultry seasoning

With a stiff spatula, break up the sausage into small ground up pieces. Add in salt and poultry seasoning. Why poultry seasoning? Poultry seasoning adds a depth of flavor with an amazing herb mix – Marjoram, Thyme, Sage, and Rosemary to name a few. These ingredients sing holiday! It really enhances the stuffing by bringing out the flavors of the holidays. So yummy and such an easy thing to add in.

    Stuffing Time

When it comes to stuffing, to each his own. My mother in law swears by using Pepperidge Farm stuffing. I really do like using it as well, but I can only find it in certain stores and in certain areas of the country. I’m living in the south currently and can find it fairly easily. But I was living on the west coast not too long ago and couldn’t find it anywhere. If you can’t find it, feel free to use stove top or whatever else is around that looks good to you. There usually are some flavors already in most stuffings and that’s great! It just adds to the flavors that we are adding in.

When adding in the stuffing, be sure to mix it well with all of the rest of the ingredients. This is because you want to incorporate it before you pour in the chicken stock for a more even distribution of ingredients. Once you’ve mixed it all together, then pour the chicken stock over the mixture as evenly as possible. Give it a few stirs and then let the chicken stock settle a bit at the bottom of the pan.

After you’ve let your stock settle, bring it up to a boil. You want to chicken stalk to be hot so that it soaks into the stuffing really well. After it comes to a boil, turn off the heat, give it another stir and put a lid on your pot. Then, leave it covered for about 5 minutes or until the stuffing is soft. Once it’s soft, give it one more stir and serve this Easy Sausage Stuffing!
