Talk about bang for your buck. All these ingredients are super inexpensive, easily accessible and loaded with nutrients. For those new to nutritional yeast, it can be found in most grocery stores that carry Bob’s Mills brands. You can also check bulk sections or health food stores if you’re having trouble finding it.  This smoothie is an easy way to kick off the nutrition that you need for the day. It’s meant to supplement your day. The rest is super easy to get with whole foods like beans, grains, other fruits and veggies as well as dairy and meat products if you aren’t vegetarian. Using the free website cronometer.com (which I am not affiliated with but love), I’ll show you an example of how I managed to get in most of my daily requirements by drinking this smoothie and eating well.

I ate 1 slice of toast with half and avocado spread on it and the Orange Julius smoothie for breakfast, I ate some chili with no meat just beans for lunch topped with sour cream and cheese and a 1/4 of an avocado. For dinner I ate 1 cup of brown rice with a chicken breast and bok choy. I still have 957 calories left to go and I’ve hit almost all of my daily nutritional needs and have exceeded many. Vitamin D is the only one that is a bit tricky to calculate with cronometer because it doesn’t take into account that I was out in the sun today. Actually, according to Healthline, “13 minutes of midday sunlight exposure during summer three times per week is enough to maintain healthy levels among Caucasian adults”. And I can get some vitamin E and folate in by eating broccoli for a snack or with a meal.

As you can see, I still have almost 1000 calories left to eat and I’ve almost met all of my daily requirements. Now, I didn’t add the olive oil for the chicken and bok choy so subtract about 50 calories. I love seeing this all come together and understand how what we put into our body translates into. I just love it! You don’t have to be a nutrition

freak to appreciate this like I do. I think most people want their bodies to work and have energy. Since doing this daily I have felt my energy levels increase which is a big deal for a mom with 2 very rambunctious boys. I also think that it’s best to consume our vitamins as much as we can. I don’t think supplements are the devil, but I know that your bodies can absorb food much better from whole food sources than taking pills. I also love that there’s something that I can actively do everyday that’s simple and inexpensive that will directly affect my health. I hope you find as much value in this as I have.
