Hello! I'm Heather

My life has taken me on quite a journey. College in Idaho, then finishing in Hawaii where I graduated in International Cultural Studies – Anthropology. After that I was a social worker for adults with mental illness. I then left that and was an Archaeologist for 4 years. I got divorced… then met my husband and got married. We have 2 beautiful rambunctious boys and I fell in love with cooking good tasting food that was also wholesome.  Having my kids made me re-think what we should be putting into our bodies.

When my oldest son was 4 months old and began eating food I opened a box of Gerber Oatmeal. I remember thinking that it carried a strong resemblance to fish flakes. The texture was wrong and I knew from just looking at it that it was over processed. I knew that my baby shouldn’t eat it and that regular oatmeal would be fine, and it was! Please, don’t mistake me for shaming anyone has fed gerber products to their kids. But this is where my whole foods journey began.

I’ve dedicated much of my time in creating healthy recipes that my kids and hubby will love. Not only that, but healthy recipes can get complicated. I wanted to make simple recipes that taste good and were good for you. I also delve into the occasional treat because life doesn’t have to be all serious.

I also try to educate my kids on creating a healthy body. We have fun learning about food and cooking in the kitchen together. We are not perfect eaters by any means but we try to eat as balanced as we can.

About my personal interests beyond food

I love adventure and hiking and am always looking for a new hike to take the kiddos and hubby on. I love singing, especially jazz. In high school I was a part of a jazz choir and yeah, it was pretty fun. I play the piano, the violin, the guitar and the ukulele, but very poorly. That doesn’t stop me

from loving it. I am not artistic and couldn’t draw a dog to save my life. I love sports, especially volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee and walking. I love riding my bike with my kids and enjoying nature. I look at camping as a good weekend and I could sit around a fire with good company every night for the rest of my life.

I am a mother of 2 very feral boys who push me in all the best ways. They are a gift from God that I all too often take for granted. I am married to my best friend. We always have fun together no matter where we are or what we are doing. He is a theatre teacher and I admire him for the love that he has for his craft. I am heartily religious and that’s extremely important to the well being of my soul, life and my family.
