This is one of the best life hacks I’ve seen. It’s cheap, delicious and it works. Your main electrolytes come from the salt (like gatorade or powerade) that you use which is why I feel it’s important to use high quality salt. So, here’s a quick chemistry lesson for us: Salt’s chemical compound is sodium chloride. When salt is in water it eventually dissolves causing the sodium and the chloride to separate. Sodium and Chloride are both electrolytes and will help replenish your body. SCIENCE!
Not only that but it’s not packed with unnecessary sugars. You can even adjust the sweetness to your preferred taste, giving you more control over how much sweetener you and your family are consuming. Most of the ingredients are very cheap and are usually on hand. I almost always have lemons or limes hanging around. Honey is always on hand and we usually have 100% natural maple syrup too.
Use it for sick kids
It’s easy to make in a pinch and can be a cheap solution to pedialyte as well. My son just had the flu and I was the only adult at home. He was throwing up and I couldn’t leave him to get to the grocery store for fear of him puking all over the place with no support. I quickly made this concoction for him and he loved it. It helped him feel better and it made me feel good knowing I could make as much as he needed.
