    Gingerbread Oatmeal | How To

Let’s make some Gingerbread Oatmeal! Time to ring in the holidays with this delicious, spiced, soul warming dish. For my family it’s a new tradition that we cherish and makes Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas just seem a bit more festive. Truly some of my happiest holiday memories are focused around what I ate, and this dish is no exception. And this recipe makes “festive” sooooo simple!

Honestly, this is one of the simplest recipes and really doesn’t require much elaboration. But, there are a few things to know that may help you in your oatmeal game that I’m super happy to share!

    General Oatmeal Rules

    Rule 1: Water

When cooking with any kind of oats, with the exception of steel cut oats, you want your water to oat ratio to be 3:1. Basically, if you have 1 cup of oats, you’ll want to add 3 cups of water. Easy right?! My husband, bless him, has the hardest time cooking oats and it’s literally because he refuses to learn this rule. Love you babe! But it’s true.

    Rule 2: Salt

A lot of people forget to salt their oats. This makes the oatmeal taste flat and one dimensional, especially when adding your sweetener and cream. Salt makes the oats more balanced, requires less sweetener to taste good, and adds depth. The good news, if you ever forget to salt your oats, you can always add it at the end.

I hope you enjoy this bowl of gingerbread oatmeal as much as we do and feel it makes your season just a bit more special. Happy Holidays!
