  • Total Time1 hr 40 min

    Ingredients

    • 3 Cups (415 grams) All Purpose or Bread Flour
    • 2 tsp (7 grams) Yeast
    • 2 tsp (10 grams) Salt
    • 1.5 C (346 grams) Hot Water
    • 5 Fresh Garlic Cloves
    • 4-5 Green Onions

    Tools

    • Dutch Oven With Lid
    • Parchment Paper
    • Lame (optional)

    Method

    Mix The Dough

    1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Keep the salt and the yeast apart when pouring into the flour. Using a fork, mix the salt into the flour, then the yeast into flour, and then mix all together.

    2

After the flour, yeast and salt are mixed, pour in the water. Stir with a spatula until the flour is fully incorporated. Cover for 1 hour. While your dough is rising, dice your garlic and chop your green onions. Set aside.

    Pre-Heat

    3

After an hour, place your dutch oven pot with lid into your oven. Turn the oven on to 425 Degree F.

    4

Next, dust your countertop with flour and pour out your dough. Sprinkle the top of the dough with more flour. Cover your hands with a little flour as well, and press the dough down to flatten it.

    Add Garlic And Onions

    5

After you’ve flattened your dough, Sprinkle your diced garlic and chopped greens over the dough evenly, then press them down into the dough using your floured hands.

    Shape The Dough & Rise

    6

Now it’s time to shape your loaf. Fold the outside edges into the center until you form a ball. Flip ball over seam side down, and do a few tucks under the ball to tighten the dough. Don’t over-tighten as it can tear the dough. Place your dough, seam side down, onto a piece of parchment paper. Cover the dough with your bowl and let rise for 30 minutes.

    Bake

    7

After 30 minutes, remove your dutch oven from the oven, remove the lid and place your shaped loaf into the dutch oven. Replace the lid and place it back into the oven. Bake for 25 minutes.

    8

After 25 minutes, remove the lid and bake for 15 minutes. Your loaf should be a nice golden brown. Give your loaf about 15 minutes or so to cool and enjoy!

Spice up your loaf! Add in any herbs, cheese or spices to this bread. Make it your own!

    flour salt yeast
    water

Let’s get started on making this amazingly delicious No-Knead Onion and Garlic Easy Artisan Loaf. The first thing to do is to combine the flour, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Be sure to add your yeast and salt to opposite ends of the bowl. Then, using a fork, mix the yeast on one side of the bowl and the salt on the opposite side (like fighting children). Once your yeast and salt have been mixed separately, then mix all together. Why? Yeast can be slowed by salt. This helps to minimize that.

    hot Water explained

Next, add in the water. Using a spatula, stir until the flour and water are fully combined. Cover the dough with a lid or saran wrap. Allow the dough to rise for one hour.

HOT WATER EXPLAINED: You may wonder – how hot is hot? Here’s an easy way to gauge this – Yeast is like me, it likes hot baths. Set your water temperature to the hottest that you could stand in a bath. Easy right!? No thermometer needed.

Do I need a Dutch Oven?

After an hour, turn on your oven to 425 degrees F and place your dutch oven with a lid inside to preheat it. This will give your dough a nice “bounce” when rising. If you don’t have a dutch oven, you can just use a cookie sheet. Your loaf may not rise as much, but it will be good enough and still taste amazing. Wondering what size of a dutch oven I use? Mine is a 6 quart. Here’s a decently priced one on Amazon that has great reviews.

Once your dutch oven is in the oven preheating, it’s time to turn out your dough to add in your ingredients. Dust your countertop with flour and pour out your dough. Feel free to sprinkle some more flour on the top of your dough. Use your fingers to flatten the dough, knocking out the air. This allows your loaf to rise evenly! Add the diced onions and garlic evenly over the dough and use your fingers to lightly press them in.

    Do I have to Score?

Cover the dough with your bowl while your dutch oven is heating up, about 30 minutes. When your timer is up, take your dutch oven pot out of your oven and place your loaf inside. Replace the lid and stick that puppy back in the oven. SCORING YOUR LOAF – It’s not necessary to score your loaf before cooking. This just helps to control where the bread will tear while baking. If you don’t score, your bread will just tear where ever it feels, which will give your loaf a nice rustic look!

After 25 minutes, remove the lid from your dutch oven and bake for another 15 minutes. Once 15 minutes is up, take your loaf out, take a few heavenly sniffs, and proceed to place the loaf on a cooling rack. Feel free to eat right away or when you’re ready. For future bakes, add some cheese or herbs to this Onion and Garlic Easy Artisan Loaf! Soooooo good.
